A recent addition to my garden is Yellow Adler. I had noticed its cheerful yellow flowers in a few yards on island so was happy to find my niece had some in hers. I was able to transfer a mature plant from her garden to mine and soon I had seedlings from it to spread around my yard. Its bright bright green foliage and sunny flowers help to fill things in although I do wish the flowers lasted longer. Yet again, it is one of those plants that drop their flowers in the afternoon.

Yellow Adler is from tropical Central America and the Caribbean where it is also has medicinal uses. It grows 2-3 ft. high and flowers daily around the year. It is a low care plant but will do better if it gets full sun, loose soil and the occasional water. The bees like to visit the yellow flowers. The stems of Yellow Adler tend to grow long and spread out so it may need to be cut back occasionally to encourage more bushy growth. Its small, round green pods pop open to give you seedlings which are easily pulled up and are easily potted up if you need more plants. Left to themselves they will happily grow in rocky crannies. It would also make a good central, tall plant in a large container with lower plants arranged underneath.
